Im a few days late on this post but here is a pic of our sweet boy at 19 weeks and 4 days.
I had my "twenty" week ultrasound and anatomy scan a few days early but it seems our little man was not up for pictures. He was all curled up and just wouldn't let us get a good look at all of him. The technician told me we would need to come in for another scan in a few weeks to make sure they could get all of his measurements and check to see that he's healthy.
We found out during the ultrasound that he has a single umbilical artery or two vessel cord. Basically this means that unlike typical cords, where you have two veins and one artery, this cord only has one main vein and one artery. It could mean nothing but it could also mean that there are other problems such as cardiac defects or gastrointestinal problems. It could also be a marker for other serious chromosomal abnormalities. Babies with two vessel cords are at a higher risk of low birth weights and being born still. Our Dr. suggested we have a level two ultrasound just to check for any other markers.
At the level two ultrasound the dr.'s and technician did not pick up on any other markers or warning signs but they still recommended a fetal echocardiogram just to be on the safe side. I will go in for that around 24 weeks just to get a good look at this babes heart. Its hard to believe that after everything we did to ensure we were having a "healthy" baby we are still going through this. Please keep us in your thoughts and pray that this lil guy is as healthy as can be.
