Day 2- The meaning behind my blog name Dancing thru Life

If you have read a little about me HERE than you know I am a former ballet dancer. I grew up in South Florida and found my passion for dance around the age of 12. I danced all through my childhood but it really wasn't till then that I fell in love with ballet. I joined a pre-professional ballet company which was an amazing experience. (If you happen to live in South Florida and you or your LO are looking for a great place to fall in love with ballet check it out HERE). We were exposed to what it really was like dancing for a professional ballet company. I took class every day but Friday, rehearsed 4 times a week, danced in full length ballets and was able to perform with professional dancers from companies around the world. I loved just about every minute of it. I say that because while I loved dancing I didn't really have a "normal" childhood. My friends were all ballet dancers and I missed out on a lot of my adolescence.

After high school I decided I wanted to continue dancing. My mother told me she would help support me if I decided to dance professionally straight out of high school but I knew that was not the right path for me. I chose to dance in college to continue my training and try and get a real "college experience". During my sophomore year I injured the cartilage in my hip and had to have surgery. I ended up not going back to the ballet program and switched my degree to early childhood education. After college I missed dancing so much and I knew I needed it in my life so I went out for an NBA basketball dance team. I ended up making the team and danced for a year for the Indiana Pacers dance team. It was an amazing experience. We traveled overseas to London, Norway, Iceland, Kosovo, Bosnia and Austria dancing for our troops. Honestly, one of the best experiences of my life.

I knew from then on I needed dance in my life one way or another. I got an opportunity teaching ballet and took it. I love working with kids and combining my degree in early childhood with my passion for ballet. After I had my daughter I stopped teaching and it was a rough couple of months. Currently I teach one day a week to keep me sane.

People ask me all the time when Im going to put Avery in dance lessons. Truthfully, Im still pondering this one. I want her to do it because she wants to and not because I forced her into it. I also worry that if she does decide to take classes and hates it that I will be upset. Crazy I know, but I want her to choose her own path and not follow mine.

So there you have it the meaning behind my blog name Dancing thru Life

Life's a dance, You learn as you go
Sometimes you lead, sometimes you follow
